Mendoza / Brick Lane

Fitting with the East End’s fixation with nostalgia, Mendoza menswear is the style hotspot for 1960’s and 70s vintage inspired clothing with a refined contemporary twist. Mendoza’s influences come from the widely emulated super stylish mod era of slim fitting two tone tonic suits, button down shirts and pop art style union jack blazers and dashing cigarette pants. For a modern nod to much loved Mod fashion, shop Mendoza’s quirky knitted ties or a pair of outré cufflinks. Mendoza Menswear personifies Brick Lane’s insouciant cool with its hip collection of classic, great British tailoring for which the independent brand is known for.

Mendoza are obsessed with colour, quality and finish with all of their garments made in Britain with British made fabrics and reworked vintage 60s and 70s fabrics, buttons and trims for a unique, authentic touch.

A pair of Mendoza check trousers cost £65 and a Mendoza navy blue short cape costs £175.

WeLikeShopping Tip: Mendoza’s menswear like to keep their products as exclusive as possible only stocking their clothing in limited numbers.

I thought the sales assistant at Mendoza was incredibly impolite. I wandered in here to take some shelter from a horrible rainstorm and was immediately told that it's a men's shop only - as if I wasn't allowed to set foot in it because they don't sell womenswear?! I've never been spoken to so rudely by a member of staff.

I am always keen to support the British independent shops and boutiques, and this is one I frequent on a regular basis. Like any vintage shop, sometimes Mendoza feels like it doesn't have anything good in it and you wonder why you bothered visiting it. Other days, you feel like you've stumbled across a treasure chest and you wonder how much you can physically get out the door with. It's worth visiting here a few times before you form an opinion of it, as the stock is so changeable. Personally, I think it's the best menswear vintage shop in London.

A brilliant little mod-shop for men! This independent men's boutique features vintage clothing that extends past Fred Perry, and concentrates firmly in the mod era. It's perfectly suited for the East End, is very sharp and cool, and is worth a visit for any menswear fashion fan.

I stumbled upon Mendoza by accident during a weekend in London, while looking for a good curry place on Brick Lane for lunch. I thought the store looked interesting so nipped inside.

It's a small shop with a curated selection of vintage and retro men's clothing, much of which is from the mod era. Some of the items are a little bit pricey but there are a few more affordable pieces. If you are a) male and b) into men's fashion then this shop will be right up your alley.
